Compress an Image to 200KB
200KB leaves room for a detailed photo, enough for a full-width website banner or a clear product shot. FormShrink compresses your image to 200KB or less as a JPG and first scales anything wider or taller than 1920 px down to that size, so even a 12-megapixel phone photo comes out clean at normal viewing size.
Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, and the tool is free without an account.
This page presets the tool: Advanced mode, JPG output, a 200KB target and resizing to fit within 1920 × 1920 px (full-HD width). Change anything under Compression Settings; Reset Settings restores the preset.

The target size comes first: FormShrink lowers the quality below your chosen level when needed to reach it.
Higher values preserve more detail but produce larger files.
Lanczos3: higher quality (slower), Bilinear: faster (lower quality).
Leave blank to let FormShrink decide the optimal size.
EXIF data such as camera details and GPS location is removed automatically
JPEG · PNG · WebP support target size compression. Other formats need to be converted first.
How to compress an image to 200KB
Choose your images
Drag photos onto the upload area or click Browse Files. You can add up to 10 at a time, each up to 50MB.
Keep or change the 1920 px limit
1920 px fills a full-HD screen. If your site or form wants smaller images, such as 1200 px product photos, enter that under Resize Image: fewer pixels leave more of the 200KB for quality.
Compress to 200KB
Click Compress Images. FormShrink finds the highest JPG quality that keeps each file at or under 200KB and shows the result, ready to download on its own or with Download All.
What a 200KB image is good for
At 200KB most photos look clean on screen, even at full-HD width.
Official photo uploads
Some visa, passport and ID photo uploads set a limit in the low hundreds of kilobytes, usually together with exact pixel dimensions. Crop to the required shape, enter the exact size under Resize Image, and let the 200KB target do the rest. Always check the current rules on the official site.
Website banners and hero images
A 1920 px banner under 200KB loads quickly on phones and still fills a large desktop screen.
Product photos for online stores
Shoppers zoom in on product photos, so you want detail without heavy files. At 1500–2000 px and around 200KB, a product shot stays crisp and the page stays quick.
Portfolio and blog galleries
Galleries load many images at once. Compressing each photo to 200KB keeps a 20-photo gallery around 4MB, instead of the several dozen megabytes the same photos take straight off a phone.
Tips for 200KB photos
- Product photos on a plain white background compress very efficiently, so they often fit well under 200KB even at high quality.
- Want more detail? Set Visual quality to High (best detail). The tool then tries qualities up to 90 and still keeps the file under 200KB.
- Always compress from the original. A JPG loses a little detail every time it's re-saved, so avoid compressing an already-compressed copy.
- 200KB here is 204,800 bytes. For a limit stated as 200,000 bytes, set the target to 195KB.
Questions about compressing to 200KB
Can I compress an image to 200KB without resizing it?
Yes, switch off Resize Image. Images of 2–3 megapixels usually still fit with decent quality. A full-size 12-megapixel phone photo, though, usually can't reach 200KB even at the lowest quality, and the tool will tell you so. For on-screen use, 1920 px is the better trade-off.
What does Visual quality do when a target size is set?
It sets the upper limit. FormShrink tries qualities between 10 and that limit and keeps the highest one that fits under 200KB. Balanced (80) is the default; High (90) can give a little more detail when the photo has room.
Can I compress 10 product photos to 200KB at once?
Yes. Add up to 10 images and click Compress Images once. Each photo gets the highest quality that fits, so simple shots may come out well under 200KB and busy ones close to it.
Why did my PNG logo get a black background?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas of a PNG become a solid color, often black. For logos and graphics with transparency, set Output Format to PNG or WebP, which both keep it. To reach 200KB in those formats, the tool reduces the number of colors and, if needed, shrinks the image, so check the result.
Does my photo get uploaded?
No. FormShrink compresses images inside your browser with WebAssembly, so your photos stay on your device and there's no account to create.
